Redstone 3 will be called the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

It"s day two of Microsoft"s Build 2017 developer conference, and at today"s keynote, the firm talked about the next feature update to Windows 10, which was previously only known as Redstone 3. As a follow-up to the Creators Update, and since it"s slated to arrive in the fall, it will be known as the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Indeed, Microsoft previously said that the next feature update for the OS would arrive in September; however, the firm would not comment on such a specific timeframe at Build. If it does stick to that schedule, that would mean that the update will arrive in the final week of the month, as the autumn season begins on September 22.

Version name Codename Version number Build number Release
Windows 10 Threshold 1507 10240 July 2015
November Update Threshold 2 1511 10586 November 2015
Anniversary Update Redstone 1607 14393 August 2016
Creators Update Redstone 2 1703 15063 April 2017
Fall Creators Update Redstone 3 1709? September 2017?

Microsoft also said that Windows 10 Mobile will receive the Fall Creators Update, although it didn"t elaborate on any specifics, such as if that version of the update will actually be Redstone 3, or if it will be one of the "feature2" builds that Insiders have been seeing.

There are going to be quite a few new features in the update. OneDrive placeholders are returning, but under the name of Files On-Demand. There"s also an all-new Fluid Design Language, which was previously known as Project NEON, and we"ve already been seeing a lot of it in first-party apps. And then there are features like Clipboard and "pick up where you left off", which are meant to provide continuity between devices.

What do you think of the name Fall Creators Update? Let us know in the comments!
