Rememory - an upcoming sci-fi mystery movie starring Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Julia Ormond (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Legends of the Fall), is going to be released on Google Play Movies & TV on August 24 and will be viewable for free until its limited release in theaters on September 8. This is the first instance of a movie being made available on Google"s platform ahead of its theatrical release.
The trailer of the movie is rather intriguing, showing glimpses of a thrilling murder mystery. Dinklage plays the role of Sam Bloom, a man trying to unravel an inventor"s puzzling death by using his newest creation: a device that can extract, record and replay a person"s memories.
Interestingly, even though Google isn"t listed as one of the producers on IMDb, the Google Play logo does appear in the trailer. The official description for the movie is as follows:
REMEMORY was written by Michael Vukadinovich and Mark Palansky and produced by Daniel Bekerman and Lee Clay. The film explores the unexplained death of Gordon Dunn (Martin Donovan), a visionary scientific pioneer whose body is found shortly after the unveiling of his newest work: a device able to extract, record and play a person’s memories. Gordon’s wife, Carolyn (Julia Ormond – Mad Men, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Legends of the Fall), retreats into her house and cuts off contact with the outside world when a mysterious man (Peter Dinklage – Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Station Agent) shows up. After stealing the machine, he uses it to try and solve the mystery, beginning an investigation of memories that lead him to unexpected and dangerous places.
It is important to note that the film will be free for Play Movies & TV users only in select countries, which includes United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and more. Rememory currently holds an 8.6/10 rating on IMDB, after being played at the Sundance and Dallas International Film Festivals.
Only a couple of other movies have been made available via streaming services prior to or instead of a theatrical release up till now, namely, Veronica Mars and The Interview.
