All Things Digital today reports that Facebook, the world"s largest social networking website, will soon officially confirm that they are now home to more than 500 million members.
Speculation has been mounting over the past few weeks that Facebook had breached the 500 million user milestone, making it one of the largest social networking ventures ever, but the company has up until now refused to confirm the reports.
But all that could soon change. According to All Things Digital, Facebook is preparing to announce sometime in the upcoming week that the company has broken the 500 million user threshold, and will unveil a new "Facebook Stories" marketing program to celebrate.
The marketing initiative, which All Things D says will kick off once the announcement is made public, will see a website unveiled featuring stories -- categorized into themes including “finding love,” “coping with grief” and “natural disasters” -- from Facebook users that have had life-changing experience in which the Facebook platform was involved. All Things D says around 200 will show initially (and all can be "liked" in true Facebook spirit), but the company is encouraging users to submit their own through this form.
The report fits with an earlier article by TechCrunch, who suggest employees at the social networking magnate have been invited to share pictures of themselves, celebrating and "giving thanks" to Facebook users for helping them reach the milestone.
