It"s hard to believe but Facebook has yet to release an app that"s designed specifically for Apple"s iPad, over a year since the highly popular tablet was first launched. The users of the original iPad tablet and its successor the iPad 2 have had to make do with the Facebook app made for Apple"s smaller iPhone and iPod Touch products. Now The New York Times is reporting via unnamed sources that Facebook is finally close to releasing a free app for its social networking service that"s been designed to work with the larger iPad tablet and its touch screen.
The app, which the report says will be released sometime in the next several weeks, has been in development for nearly a year. Facebook CEO Mark Mark Zuckerberg has personally been involved in the process of the design of the app as well as its unique features. For example the story claims that the Facebook Chat and Facebook Groups features have been reworked for the iPad app version. It will also allow people to use the iPad"s cameras to shoot high resolution pictures and video and then upload them directly to their Facebook account. The story says that Facebook is also working on a new version of its web site that will be optimized for being used on the iPad.
Apple will also be promoting the iPad Facebook app with a prominent placing on its App Store, according to the report. Naturally neither Facebook nor Apple have officially commented on any plans for a Facebook iPad app release.
