Microsoft may have just announced announced "Halo 5: Guardians," but if a new report is accurate, it has much bigger plans for the franchise"s future on Xbox One.
According to a report by Engadget, Microsoft will release high-definition remakes of "Halo: Combat Evolved," "Halo 2," "Halo 3" and "Halo 4" in a single package for the Xbox One entitled "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" sometime this year. Engadget states it doesn"t know who the game"s developer will be, though it hypothesizes that Saber Interactive, developer of the Xbox 360 remake "Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary," may be the studio responsible.
The report follows months of rumors that Microsoft will release a high-definition remake of "Halo 2" for the game"s 10th anniversary this year, as well as promises that a Halo game would be released for Xbox One this year.
If Engadget"s report is true, it would corroborate a recent rumor that the first four games in the Halo franchise"s main storyline (not including "Halo: Reach" or "Halo 3: ODST," which don"t follow primary protagonist Master Chief) would be remade for Xbox One. According to those rumors, however, the most recent three entries in the main storyline wouldn"t be released as a compilation but individually within a year of "Halo 5."
