iPhone and Android phone users who also have a TiVo DVR device have been waiting patiently for some kind of official app that would help control and manager their TiVos from afar. Well, that may finally be happening soon. Zatz Not Funny"s web site is reporting that a new article for the print magazine CEPro states, "For TiVo owners, the California-based company developed control and management apps for the iPad and (soon) the iPhone and Android OS products."
As the article mentioned, there is indeed a free TiVo app available specifically for Apple"s iPad. It was first announced in November 2010 and launched in January 2011. The app, which works only with TiVo Premiere products, lets users check out the TiVo"s program guide without having to interrupt the playback of a show recorded on your TV. It also lets users schedule new shows to be recorded even when they are not at home, search for content via channels, post comments about shows via Twitter and Facebook and more.
It"s unclear exactly when the iPhone and Android apps will be released or if they will have as many features as the iPad app. There"s also no word if there might be a separate Android TiVo app made especially for Android-based tablets.
Earlier this month TiVo announced two new products made for cable TV operators. One is the TiVo Premiere Q which has four (or quad, hence the Q) tuners. The other is the the TiVo Preview, the company"s first non-DVR HD set-top box
