Last month Apple announced plans to release its very own game subscription service, titled Apple Arcade. The company also revealed that the subscription service will offer more than a hundred exclusive games and - at no extra cost to the subscriber - access to full game features, additional content, ad-free gameplay and future updates. According to the Financial Times, well-informed sources have quoted that Apple has decided to spend or will spend over $500 million on acquiring and developing game titles for Apple Arcade. Apparently, the investments made to developers funds for this project are far more than the average amount spent on conventional indie titles.
When Apple Arcade was debuted, Apple stated that the premium game subscription service will offer over a hundred exclusive games at launch, including original titles from popular creators such as Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Wong, and Will Wright. The Cupertino-based tech giant also named several gaming studios that it has partnered with for the project, including bigwigs like Konami, LEGO, SEGA, and Cartoon Network. Reportedly, Apple is offering extra incentives to the developers if they choose to make their games exclusive to Apple Arcade.
All games on Apple Arcade will be playable offline and most of them will be compatible with game controllers. The premium game subscription will be available to iOS, macOS, and tvOS devices through a designated tab in the App Store. Additionally, subscribers will be able to sync their games across all compatible Apple devices, allowing them to continue playing games from the last game save on any Apple device.
Apple Arcade is set to be released this fall in over 150 countries. However, Apple has yet to announce a price tag for its upcoming paid game subscription service.
