Required Windows Live Mail 2012 update cripples the app for some users

Only a few days ago, Microsoft announced that an update for Windows Live Mail 2012 was required to continue using the client with Outlook and Hotmail. However, over the last few days, we received quite a few complaints from our users that this update, instead of only fixing the synchronization, can cause crashes as well as issues importing email into other mail clients.

These issues seem to be caused by the calendar synchronization, and once you disable the calendar sync, Windows Live Mail 2012 will continue to work without issues for most users. Another option that has been reported to work, is by running Windows Live Mail in compatibility mode for Windows 8.

The third option involves uninstalling the patch, which you can do by using the following in the command prompt:

msiexec /package {B775C26B-EAA8-4A11-ACBF-76E52DF6B805} /uninstall {342DCD5D-5946-453B-97AC-D53B7662EDF5}

After running the command, you need to choose repair and follow the steps in the wizard. Once you"ve done this, Windows Live Mail will be reverted back to the old version without the issues of the update.

Keep in mind that the original hot-fix supplied by Microsoft is only required for those who use Hotmail/Outlook as their mail provider - if you use another provider, you are not required to install the update.

While Microsoft"s advice is to simply switch over to the Mail app that is available in Windows 8 or Windows 10, some people are satisfied with the older Live Mail client and prefer to keep using it.

Which email client do you prefer to use? Let us know in the comments!
