Capcom has announced that it will be bringing Resident Evil 7 Biohazard to the Nintendo Switch, but it won"t be doing so in a traditional way.
The company is calling this a "cloud version" and the download itself comes in at just 45MB. This is because, as the name suggests, the game will not be loaded onto the console itself. Instead, players will need a stable internet connection in order to stream the game from Capcom"s servers.
Playing the title will be free for the first 15 minutes, but after that, it will require a 2,000 yen (about $18) fee for a ticket which allows you to play the game for 180 days. On the bright side, the streamed game contains all of the DLC released so far.
The Nintendo Switch"s internal storage is fairly low at just 32GB, but Capcom has previously released two of its Resident Evil games on the platform, so it"s not entirely clear why this route was chosen for Biohazard. The need for a constant connection to the internet means the console"s portability will most likely be useless when playing the game.
The game is only announced for Japan right now, but it"s possible other regions will get it at a later date.
