RIM sending out invites for BlackBerry 10 event in NYC

While Research in Motion announced several weeks ago that it would hold "multiple" launch events for its BlackBerry 10 OS and smartphones on January 30, the company has now started to send out official invites to select members of the media today to attend at least one of them.

CNet reports they have received their invitation to the BlackBerry 10 press event in New York City; no other details about the event have been revealed.

All eyes will be on RIM on that day as it tries to show the assembled press, and the world at large, that its once popular business oriented smartphones can compete once again with iOS and Android products. BlackBerry"s share of the smartphone market has plunged over the past year.

While the event will be RIM"s official unveiling of the BlackBerry 10 smartphones, there have already been tons of leaks that reportedly show off these devices; one with a physical keyboard and one with a touch screen interface. The touch screen device is expected to go on sale first, before the end of the first quarter of 2013 and the physical keyboard smartphone is expected to launch later in the year.
