Risk of Rain is a 2D, action rogue-like platformer notorious for its high difficulty but rewarding gameplay. The game"s developer, Hopoo Games, has now announced a sequel through its blog. However, Risk of Rain 2 is diverging from its 2D roots and going in the direction of being a fully 3D, third-person shooter.
The new game counts as the indie studio"s first 3D project, with the developer saying that "We think that 3D allows for much deeper design spaces and more possibilities for cool gameplay" along with "Feelings of scale and atmosphere are also much stronger." Hopoo Games also added that "We are really happy with the core of Risk of Rain - and we"re finding it plays even better in 3D."
As Risk of Rain 2 is quite early in development, a release date or even any details on which platforms it will be available on have not been announced yet. For anyone who is interested in reading the full blog post by the developer, it"s available here.
