ROLI is perhaps best known for its Seaboard device that looks similar to a keyboard but offers a continuous surface that can be interacted with in different ways to alter its sounds. Now, the firm has debuted a Kickstarter project with a new device, that will supposedly make it easier to learn how to play and also make music of your own.
The LUMI is a small synthesizer that offers light up keys. This device will pair with an app, and through visual guides and the light up keys, attempt to make it easier for users to play music. The app will offer hundreds of popular songs that can be learned, and will also offer lessons on more basic areas of playing the instrument as well. Once you feel like you"ve mastered playing by color, you can advance to colored notes on the display or just playing using sheet music.
For those that like the look of the LUMI, you can also use it as a standard MIDI controller. You can even link several LUMIs together to get an expanded range of keys, just like a larger keyboard. ROLI plans to get this into backers hands by October 2019. But like all crowdfunded projects, there could be delays or the project may never come to fruition.
If you are interested, you can hit the link in the source below where the LUMI will start at £131, which is 33 percent off of its retail price. The project was just launched today but has already been fully funded. The project will close on July 18.
