Microsoft has already announced that the general public will be able to get their hands on both Windows 8 and the Windows RT version of its Surface tablet on October 26th. As one might expect, Microsoft might want to make a big deal about the launch of their next OS and their first entry in the PC hardware market.
News.com reports, via unnamed sources, that Microsoft is planning to do just that with a big launch party in New York City for both Windows 8 and Surface. Microsoft usually holds big launch parties for major products in Manhattan, including the 2009 launch of Windows 7. You can likely expect big celebrities to show up, along with Microsoft executives. The big question: Will Chairman Bill Gates, who now only works a few days a month at Microsoft, be a part of the launch festivities?
As we mentioned earlier today, Microsoft is also rumored to officially launch Windows Phone 8 just a few days later on October 29th, although the official launch event could be held somewhere on the west coast, either in Los Angeles or San Fransisco. The actual Windows Phone 8 devices are expected to go on sale to the public in early November.
Microsoft will stay busy with the start of its 2012 edition of the BUILD 2012 developer conference in its headquarters in Redmond, Washington on October 30th and running through November 2nd.
