Besides the iPhone 5, the smartphone that is perhaps the most anticipated is the Droid Bionic. Motorola"s Android-based smartphone with 4G connectivity was actually announced last January at CES 2011 for release later this spring. However it got delayed due to issues in putting in its 4G technology. Now Engadget is reporting via several linked sources that the Droid Bionic might finally see the light of day on September 8 via Verizon Wireless.
However be prepared to pay a premium for the Droid Bionic if you just have to have it. Droid Life reports that Verizon plans to price the smartphone at a whopping $299. Yes, that"s apparently with a two year contract. By contrast the current version of the iPhone only costs $199 from Verizon for the same two year contract. Unfortunately, previous reports about the screen size appear to be untrue. It was first thought that the Droid Bionic would have a 4.5 inch screen, but now other reports suggests that it will have a 4.3 inch screen instead.
Other features of the Droid Bionic include having a 1 GHz dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel rear camera and more. The phone will also support the ability to link up to a laptop dock and via the WebTop app turn the Bionic into a more full fledged netbook, much like Motorola"s recent Atrix phone that"s sold by AT&T. It will also support wireless printing and the ability to stream content from your PC via ZumoCast. Is all that worth $299? You be the judge.
