Microsoft originally announced that the Xbox One would launch in 21 markets on November 22nd, but later revealed that eight of those countries (Russia, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark) would see their own launches delayed until some time in 2014. Now a new report claims, via unnamed sources, that at least four of those countries won"t see the Xbox One sold in their markets until the third quarter of next year.
GameReactor claims that the Nordic countries of Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark are the ones that won"t see the Xbox One until the July-September 2014 time frame. The article gave no reasons for such a long wait and also didn"t know if the other four countries on Microsoft"s original launch list would have to face a similar release time frame.
In August, Microsoft said that it takes a lot of time and effort to get the Xbox One to work in each of its markets, including localizing each version of the Dashboard, adding Kinect voice and language support and setting up local content and apps.
Neowin asked Microsoft to comment on this rumor. A company spokesperson sent over the following statement: "On Nov. 22, we launched Xbox One in 13 markets worldwide and our focus is on launching in more markets next year. Other than that, we have no further comment."
