Microsoft used its first annual Build conference in September 2011 to officially launch the first public version of Windows 8, aka the "Developer Preview" version of the operating system. Now a new report from ZDNet claims that the next edition of the Build conference could be held sometime in October.
The report, which uses unnamed sources, doesn"t go into any more details. However, an October time frame would certainly link up with the previous rumors of an October launch time period for the final, shipping, version of Windows 8.
It"s also possible that Microsoft might not even use the Build name for its latest major Windows conference. In any case, we suspect that if Microsoft does indeed hold some kind of Windows developer event this year, an official announcement will have to be made very soon in order for developers to plan ahead to attend.
As we previously reported, Microsoft announced that the "Release Preview" version of Windows 8 (aka the release candidate build) is scheduled to go live sometime in the first week of June. That also happens to be the same week that two other major tech trade shows are being held. One is the Computex PC hardware conference in Tapei, to be held June 5-9. The other event is E3, the video game trade show in Los Angeles from June 5-7, with a pre-E3 press conference from Microsoft scheduled to be held on June 4.
