Rumor: Nokia Lumia 1020 to cost $699, $299 on-contract

A ridiculous amount of leaks surrounding Nokia"s upcoming Lumia 1020 - the 41-megapixel PureView flagship set to be unveiled in a few hours" time - hasn"t stopped just yet. The full specifications of the phone were allegedly revealed just a few hours ago, and now, thanks to WPCentral, we"re hearing what the price of the phone will be.

According to a point-of-sales screenshot provided to WPCentral, the Lumia 1020 will cost US$699 off-contract, which is slightly more expensive than other high-end phones on the market today (for example the HTC One costs US$599 outright). The on-contract price for the smartphone is also more expensive than others on the market, as it will reportedly cost $299 on a two-year contract with AT&T (the HTC One, Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 are $199 on the same contract).

If the pricing is correct, the Lumia 1020 will have to push its features as the reason to spend $100 more on a smartphone compared to other high-end devices available. The 41-megapixel camera could be very appealing to some, but the extra price and bulk associated with the large camera sensor may turn the everyday phone buyer away.
