You might remember STALKER (or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you enjoy putting in pointless full stops) as one of the few first-person shooter titles that was also PC exclusive. GSC Game World developed three titles in the series - Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat - before a proper sequel tentatively titled STALKER 2 was cancelled, un-cancelled and then cancelled again.
A new rumor, originating from former 1C marketing guy Sergey Galyonkin, has surfaced that suggests the cancelled STALKER 2 has been picked up by Bethesda, developers of popular RPGs such as Fallout 3 and Skyrim. At this stage it isn"t clear whether they have obtained just the STALKER IP or the entire code to the cancelled sequel.
Interestingly, the guys that run the Official STALKER Facebook page have posted saying that according to their sources, Bethesda has not purchased the rights to the STALKER franchise. The official statement from Bethesda at this stage is "no comment", as you would expect when any sort of rumor like this is discussed.
At this stage it looks like STALKER 2 will remain in suspension as the original dev team has moved on to new projects, but we still have our fingers crossed something might happen in the future.
