Rumor: Verizon canceled plans to sell Windows Phone device?

Verizon has not been shy in expressing its concerns over Microsoft"s Windows Phone plans. Indeed, a Verizon representative said back in December that the company felt that getting LTE support for Windows Phone products was "critical". Now a new rumor claims that Verizon had plans to start selling a Nokia made Windows Phone device earlier in 2012 but those plans have since been shelved.

The Verge reports via unnamed sources that the device itself was code named "Om" but that Verizon"s plans to launch the phone changed due to the lack, at least at the time, of LTE support for Windows Phone. Of course, AT&T will likely launch the Lumia 900 later this month with support for its own LTE network.

The article claims that Verizon does have plans to sell a unnamed Windows Phone device when Windows Phone 8, code name Apollo, is launched later in 2012. So far Verizon, the US"s biggest wireless phone carrier, has yet to release a Windows Phone product since the HTC Trophy; that device was released along with the original Windows Phone 7 OS back in October 2010. Sprint also has yet to launch a new Windows Phone device since it released the HTC Arrive in March 2011.
