Windows Phone 7.5, codenamed “Mango”, will be unveiled on May 24th in a huge event that will likely uncover upwards of 20 rumours surrounding the update. To go along with that massive list, rumour has it that nine new Windows Phone 7 devices will be shown off at the launch event.
According to an anonymous tipster for WMPoweruser, these nine devices will come from a variety of manufacturers: two from HTC, two from Acer, one from Dell and four from Samsung – some of which, according to the source, resemble the recently released Samsung Galaxy S II running Android. These devices will most likely make use of the new minimum specifications for WP7, which demand at least a second generation Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno 205 GPU, but dual-core devices to keep up with the likes of the latest Android devices are also a possibility.
WMPoweruser also stated that these handsets will not necessarily be released soon, instead speculating a holiday season release; a move that could be to quash any rumours of the devices that might surround their release but possibly slow down WP7 sales until the release.
In any case, this news right now is simply a rumour until it is confirmed/denied at the official Mango launch on Tuesday. Neowin will be covering both the London and New Zealand events live, so don’t forget to head here on the day to view the unveiling as it happens.
