Samsung has announced that its 2021 Neo QLED 8K TV models (QN900A and QN800A) have been awarded Wi-Fi 6E certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance. This certification lets customers know that they can expect connectivity speeds up to four times faster as well as more stable and reliable data transfers even when multiple devices are connected to one router.
Commenting on the certification, Younghun Choi, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said:
“As the global leader in the TV industry, Samsung is proud to have achieved the world’s first Wi-Fi 6E certification on our TVs. With a growing set of immersive content experiences and features across the home, the certification provides Neo QLED 8K TV owners with even better access to the things they love to do.”
Wi-Fi 6E technology uses the 6GHz frequency as well as the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. The new frequency is what allows for faster transfer speeds but older devices are not compatible. Going forward, Samsung will add support for Wi-Fi 6E in more of its TV products from existing and future TV portfolios.
The need for Wi-Fi 6E is becoming more apparent as we use our TVs for more data-heavy applications including 4K and 8K streaming, downloading virtual reality content, or playing high-performance games. Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K TVs are very much high-end but expect to see Wi-Fi 6E become ubiquitous in the future.
