In an interview with Bloomberg, Andy Lees, president of Microsoft’s mobile unit, said that HTC and Samsung will be increasing their marketing budgets for Windows Phone devices. While it was not specified how the increased budgets will be utilized, these commitments from hardware vendors are critical to growing the Windows Phone market share.
With its unique interface, Windows Phone has experienced slow adoption by the general consumer. But, in a world dominated by two year contracts, it is not easy for an eager consumer to quickly switch devices (in North America) due to high upfront costs.
