Samsung announces new model of the Gear S3 classic, now with LTE

Several months after its initial announcement, Samsung finally made its Gear S3 smartwatch available to the public during the busy holiday season. The firm will now release a new model that includes an LTE radio for those that prefer an untethered experience.

The Gear S3 was launched in two styles, the classic and the frontier - both with Samsung"s awkward lower-case branding, as on some other devices like the Galaxy S7 edge. The frontier looks a bit more rugged with its rubberized buttons and band, while the classic offers a more traditional and casual exterior with its steel silver finish and leather band. Although they may look drastically different, both watches still offer the same internals and military-grade protection from dust, water, and extreme temperatures.

When we reviewed the Gear S3 classic last year, we found that the wearable was a good performer and while it did lack access to the more popular apps due to its Tizen OS, it had a hidden weapon in the form of Samsung Pay. The LTE-enabled version of the Gear S3 classic will arrive on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.

Pricing and launch dates were not announced but should be similar to the LTE model of the Gear S3 frontier.
