Samsung unveiled today a new member of its Galaxy Tab A family of tablets, running One UI based on Android 9.0 Pie and packing some entry-level specs. The Galaxy Tab A (8.0") 2019 is Samsung"s latest tablet device with a premium look, thanks to its metallic design.
As its name indicates, the tablet sports an 8-inch WXGA display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It"s not to be confused, though, with the 8-inch tablet Samsung announced earlier this year with S Pen support. The latest release includes the following specs:
Display | 8-inch WXGA TFT (1280x800) |
---|---|
Processor | Quad-core 2.0GHz |
Memory | 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage + Micro SD Slot (up to 512GB) |
Camera | Rear: 8MP Front: 2MP |
Battery | 5,100mAh |
Connectivity | Wi-Fi a/b/g/n 2.4GHz/5GHz, Wi-Fi Direct, BT 4.2, USB type-B 2.0 |
Sensor | Accelerometer, Light Sensor |
Dimension | 210 x 124.4 x 8 mm |

Samsung didn"t mention the specific chipset powering the device, but XDA Developers reports that it comes with an entry-level Snapdragon 429 SoC. The South Korean tech giant is offering a deal for consumers in order to sweeten up its new product: a 2-month free YouTube Premium and a 3-month free Spotify Premium subscription. It also features a ‘Kids Home’ mode for safe use by your children and "Family Share’ for sharing photos and other stuff with family members.
There"s no word yet on its pricing and availability details. It remains to be seen, though, how the new tablet will fare against the competition given its entry-level specs, which may be a bit uninteresting by today"s standards.
