Samsung announces the SmartThings Find service for locating lost Galaxy devices

Samsung is making it easier to find your lost Galaxy phone or tablet, even if it"s offline. The company has launched the SmartThings Find service to help you locate your lost Galaxy device through the SmartThings app.

The SmartThings Find feature is available on Galaxy devices running Android 8 or later. You"ll have to register your individual devices first such as your earbuds or smartphone through a quick registration process. The service works by using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technologies to ring your Galaxy smartphones or smartwatches when they get lost. That means you can find any device even if it"s not connected to the internet.

In addition, there"s an augmented reality feature that lets you easily spot the exact location of a lost device through your phone"s camera viewfinder and an integrated map direction. On top of ringing the lost device, you can choose to locate it using the Search Nearby capability that intensifies color graphics displayed on the map as you get closer to your lost phone or tablet.

The new feature is available worldwide from today via a software update to the SmartThings app. Early next year, Samsung also plans to expand the service"s tracking capabilities to include tags so you can find any lost item in addition to a Galaxy device.
