Samsung begins rolling out official Android 7.0 Nougat update to some Galaxy S7 handsets

Last week, just a few days after releasing its fifth Android 7.0 preview, Samsung suddenly announced the end of its Galaxy Beta Program, and said that it aimed to release the official non-preview update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge in January.

Today, it appears that the rollout has officially begun - albeit on a very small scale. As SamMobile reports, it seems that Samsung is conducting a limited "soak test" for the update, making it available to a small number of Galaxy S7 handsets before eventually continuing with a wider rollout.

The update that has been made available to a lucky few Galaxy S7 owners bumps the baseband version up to G935FXXU1DPLR, and includes the latest January security patches for the OS. However, the OS version is Android 7.0, which appears to contradict earlier reports that Samsung would go straight to the newest Android 7.1.1 release when it began upgrading its devices to Nougat.

Samsung hasn"t yet announced the start of its Android 7.0 Nougat update, but an announcement seems likely to come soon, now that the update is already making its way to users" handsets.
