In what may come as a surprise for Galaxy S20 series users, Samsung has begun rolling out the One UI 2.5 update. The firmware update is beginning to roll out to users in the European region, and should gradually make it to all S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra with time.
One UI 2.5 debuted with the Galaxy Note20 series and brings with it a host of new features such as support for wireless DeX mode, new capabilities for Pro video recording, support for Android gesture navigation on third-party launchers, and more. The S20 series devices are the first to receive the latest iteration of One UI through an over-the-air update.
The update will be welcomed by S20 users, as it brings to the flagship phones new camera capabilities and features starting on the day that the Note20 series becomes available. For those keeping track of the version numbers, versions G981BXXU4BTH5, G986BXXU4BTH5, and G988BXXU4BTH5 are rolling out for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra, respectively. It must be noted, however, that the rollout is beginning with the 5G enabled models first. However, the LTE-only models should receive the update sooner rather than later.
One UI 2.5 will likely be the last major update to the Android 10-based operating system, as the firm is expected to roll out Android 11 to the S20 series later this year. It is anybody’s guess if the Note10 or S10 series of devices will also receive the One UI 2.5 update soon, or if the company will bundle these features with the Android 11 update which Samsung has confirmed these devices will be receiving.
