Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch3 last month, and it came with a few features that weren"t available on previous Galaxy watches. That"s changing, though, as the company is rolling out a new update to the Galaxy Watch Active2 released last year, and it brings along a few of the features that debuted on the Galaxy Watch3.
One of the new features being added is the running analysis, which helps runners improve their form and performance, It analyzes aspects such as asymmetry in your steps, flight time, contact time, stiffness, and more. It also measures VO2 max, an indication of the amount of oxygen you can use while exercising.
The update also adds fall detection, a feature that was popularized by the Apple Watch, which is exactly what it sounds like. The watch can call emergency contacts automatically when it detects a fall, making it a useful tool to get help in the case of an accident.
Finally, the integration with your smartphone is getting some improvements, with the ability to view photos and emoticons directly on the watch, plus a quick view of your chat history, rather than just the last message. There are also new quick replies so you don"t need to reach for your phone to reply to a message. Samsung has also improved the media player control, giving users access to their phone"s playlist from the watch. Rounding out the additions, the watch now supports taking scrolling screenshots, which are sent to the phone automatically.
The new software update is available starting today, but it may take a while to roll out depending on where you are.
