Samsung brings Galaxy Z Fold2 features to the original Galaxy Fold [Update]

Samsung officially introduced the Galaxy Z Fold2 on September 1, as a successor to last year"s Galaxy Fold. The second-generation foldable introduced some all-new features, but now Samsung is bringing some of them to the original model via a software update which should be rolling out soon.

For one thing, the new update brings app pairs to the Edge Panel, so you can now launch sets of apps more quickly. These app combinations can be arranged in any way the user prefers, including support for a new horizontal layout that helps improve multi-tasking.

Additionally, you can now use Samsung DeX wirelessly to connect to a smart TV to use it as a second screen, or even use the Galaxy Fold"s display as a touchpad for the larger screen.

The update also brings a lot of the new camera features of the Galaxy Z Fold2 to the original Galaxy Fold. For instance, if you"re taking pictures, you"ll now be able to see the last five shots you"ve taken next to the viewfinder thanks to the larger inner display.

On top of that, you can now use a dual preview setup, so the subject of your picture can see what they look like using the external display, while the person taking the picture uses the inner display for the preview. Similarly, it"s now possible to use the rear camera for selfies, again using the external display as a viewfinder.

Finally, the update makes it easier to share Wi-Fi passwords with other Galaxy devices so you don"t have to enter them manually each time.

Update: This update has now been announced for North America, with the rollout starting on October 26.
