Samsung has said that it is collaborating with the prime entertainment and media group of Asia, CJ ENM, to construct a virtual production studio to head future video content production. This collaboration will lead to the integration of world-renowned content production of films and television series of CJ ENM and Samsung’s revolutionary Micro LED technology.
The custom virtual production volume studio of CJ ENM that is going to open in Paju, Korea later this year will get Samsung’s latest display technology, The Wall, through this collaboration. This will help in bringing innovations to virtual production solutions and video content production operations.
President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, John-hee Han stated:
We are excited to collaborate with CJ ENM to build a virtual production studio featuring Samsung’s most cutting-edge display technologies. With this partnership, Samsung is launching a new virtual production industry initiative with a commitment to deliver innovative products and solutions that offer the optimal environment for next-generation content production.
Modular technology present in The Wall enables creators to create settings according to their certain requirements, allowing a wide array of installation alternatives depending on the design of the internal studio, like convex or concave design and ceiling installation. The Wall’s 2021 model (Model Name: IWA) with Micro LED technology further improves visual expression through ultra-deep blacks and wide viewing angles.
The tech giant’s latest display technology measures over 1000 inches and supports up to 16k high-resolution content. For lifelike accuracy, Frame Rate Sync technology mitigates screen disruptions. The latest model features dedicated frame rates for studio production that enables producers to run content at frame rates as 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94Hz.
CJ ENM CEO, Ho-sung Kang stated:
The strategic partnership with Samsung will allow CJ ENM to push forward the creation of a new powerhouse of the next-generation content. While CJ ENM is investing $4.4 billion over the next five years in entertainment content, we are taking the lead in building a global No. 1 production studio to become a world leading entertainment company.
The main display at the virtual production studio will have a height of seven meters or more and a diameter of 20 meters, and will be installed in an oval shape that will give it the illusion of an infinite backdrop to produce content. The studio will employ connected cameras and LED displays to produce virtual settings in real-time. This innovative solution will not only help in reducing image compositing but will also mitigate on-location production costs and time.
