Samsung ditches Series branding for ATIV across their Windows line-up

Samsung will now call the Series 9 notebook, shown above, the ATIV Book 9

Until today, Samsung has been using the "Series" brand for all of its Windows-based notebooks and all-in-one PCs, but for the launch of its Windows 8 hybrid products it used the "ATIV" branding. Today, Samsung announced that it has decided to use the ATIV brand across all of Windows PCs, dumping the Series brand entirely.

Samsung"s press release states that all of its Series PCs will be renamed with the ATIV label immediately and all future Windows PCs will carry the ATIV name. It also also announced that all of its ATIV Windows PCs will have a new pre-loaded desktop app called SideSync, which will enable those PCs to link up to any Android-based Samsung smartphone via a USB cable. Samsung states:

When connected, users can respond to a text on a mobile phone from their PC keyboard; view maps, photos and multimedia from their phone on their PC screen; make edits to files on their phone via their ATIV PC; and even drag and drop files from one unit to another.

Samsung also announced two all new ATIV touchscreen notebooks. The 4.19 pound Samsung ATIV Book 5, with a starting price of $899.99, has a 14 inch screen, an Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive that includes 24 GB of the ExpressCache Technology.

The 5.18 pound Samsung ATIV Book 6, which was leaked earlier this month, is now official with a starting price of $1199.99, has a 15.6 inch screen, an Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive.
