Samsung executive says phones with bendable screens are "right around the corner"

Earlier this week, a report claimed that Samsung is working on two devices with foldable displays, and that they may be unveiled as soon as February 2017, at the Mobile World Congress industry expo in Barcelona.

That rumor has since been fuelled by comments made by a company executive, hinting that such devices have finally reached the point where they can become commercially viable.

As Recode reports, Samsung North America chief Gregory Lee said that devices with bendable displays are "relatively right around the corner." He added that Samsung has been working on prototype devices with bendable screens for a decade, but that it "has been very difficult to manufacture [them] at a reasonable cost."

Samsung has reportedly been developing its two upcoming devices under the codename "Project Valley". According to Bloomberg, one device is said to "fold in half like a cosmetic compact", while the second is believed to have a 5-inch form factor when used as a phone, which can "unfold" to become a larger tablet, with a display around 8 inches across.
