Samsung has stated that it is broadening its portfolio of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) solutions by bringing new enhancements that will aid various enterprises and mobile operators in administering networks efficiently. Thus far, its SDN portfolio has offered support for data center operations.
The latest SDN solutions with enhanced capabilities will be able to support businesses in various departments such as energy, retail, and education. The tech giant"s entire range of SDN will also have the potential to support mobile access (xHaul), which refers to fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul transport networks. As the new SDN solutions are open source-based and cloud-native, they can easily merge with third-party switches and routers as well.
Senior Vice President and Head of Software R&D, Network Business at Samsung Electronics, Sohyong Chong stated:
Networks are becoming more agile with SDN technology in the 5G era. Samsung is proud to take part in this network evolution by offering a full lineup of SDN solutions and bringing more operational flexibility to 5G network management. Samsung’s SDN will help operators and enterprises rapidly introduce new 5G applications, services and infrastructures, driving faster time to market.
This SDN technology can automate network slicing end-to-end, which will aid in satisfying service-level agreement (SLA) requirements. It will also allow mobile operators to provide optimal networks for different business frameworks.
As the SDN is based on Open Network Operating System (ONOS), it can support different types of open interfaces to facilitate multi-vendor interoperability. It also has the capability to assist numerous functions in a single box, including enterprise SDN and data center SDN.
