There"s been no end of leaks about Samsung"s new Galaxy S8 flagships in recent weeks, but the long wait for their official unveiling is almost at an end. Samsung decided not to announce the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at this year"s Mobile World Congress, and will instead introduce them at a standalone event on March 29.
Recent reports have suggested that the S8 and larger S8+ will only be offered with a single configuration, coming with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, although both devices are expected to come in a range of colors. However, according to Kevin Wong, research director at analysis firm IHS in China, Samsung will offer an additional configuration unique to China.
Samsung will likely sell Galaxy S8 models with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage to Chinese buyers. This is believed to be a necessity for the Korean company in order to effectively compete with local rivals in China, where a growing number of Android devices are being offered with more storage, and more RAM. One Chinese manufacturer, Vernee, is already preparing to release a new handset with 8GB RAM onboard.
Galaxy S8 and S8+ models with 6GB RAM are unlikely to be offered in other markets.
