Earlier this year, HTC announced its blockchain-powered smartphone called Exodus, which is designed to provide hardware support for cryptocurrencies. Now, it seems Samsung might be planning to follow suit based on a number of trademark applications it filed in the European Union this week.
The trademarks in question are for the “Blockchain KeyStore,” “Blockchain key box,” and “Blockchain Core," which are all described in the trademark document as "software applications for use with mobile devices; computer software platforms; application software."
The document appears to suggest that the South Korean tech giant is developing some sort of technology for storing crypto keys. There"s no mention about what future phone models will come with this feature, but it"s believed to be meant for integration with the upcoming Galaxy S10 range as the trademark application states that these apps will apply to smartphones.
Earlier this year, Samsung was also reported to have started building ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) hardware intended for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining. The latest development leaves little doubt about the company"s growing interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain encryption key storage systems.
