Details of Samsung’s successor to the hugely popular Galaxy A51 smartphone have been slowly trickling out to the web. Renders of the upcoming smartphone leaked late last year, hinting at incremental upgrades to the design for the mid-ranger. Now, a new report sheds light on the possible display specifications for not just the Galaxy A52, but also the upcoming Galaxy A72.
The report states that the Galaxy A52 5G will sport a 120Hz high refresh rate, which will be a first for a device in this price range. The refresh rate on the 5G-capable variant will supposedly differ from the LTE variant on both the Galaxy A52 and the A72 – which might house 90Hz panels. This is because the A52 5G is said to feature a more powerful Snapdragon 750G SoC, as opposed to the Snapdragon 720G in the LTE versions.
As for the other specifications of the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G, they are expected to be largely similar. The devices might come with a 6.5-inch FullHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display housing a 32MP front-facing shooter in the punch hole. At the back, the quad-camera array is said to house a 64MP main camera, accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and dual 5MP depth and macro sensors. The phones will likely be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The devices will likely run Android 11-based One UI 3.1 out of the box.
The introduction of a 120Hz refresh rate display in a mid-range offering will be an interesting move from the South Korean company. While it is not known if these panels will offer adaptive refresh rates, the specifications will surely be a step over competing mid-rangers like the Oppo Reno4 Pro and the OnePlus Nord that offer 90Hz displays, and in line with devices like the Galaxy S20 FE. Of course, the A52 5G is rumored to cost more than €450, which will be more expensive than the Nord at €399. There is no information on the prices for the 5G variant in the U.S. market yet.
The report also suggests that the new A-series phones are expected to be launched sometime next month, so the wait will not be too long before all is known about the firm’s plans.
