Samsung Galaxy Book Odyssey packs Tiger Lake H-series chips, RTX 3050Ti Max-Q GPU, more

Samsung today unveiled a new range of Windows PCs during its Unpacked virtual event, headlined by the new Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 that bring thin and light offerings packed with features such as AMOLED displays, support for 5G, and more. However, the company spent much less time talking about two more devices, the Galaxy Book and Galaxy Book Odyssey, the latter of which packs 11th-gen Tiger Lake H-series processors and up to an Nvidia RTX 3050Ti GPU.

First up is the Galaxy Book, a device that comes with a broad range of processor options. The device can be had with either Intel’s 11th-gen Core i3/i5/i7 chips with Iris Xe graphics for the Core i5 and Core i7 versions or with Pentium Gold or Celeron processors. There is also the option to spec the devices with an Nvidia GeForce MX450 GPU. The notebook sports a 15.6-inch LCD display with a FullHD (1920 x 1080) resolution and can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The device also sports an additional PCIe NVMe SSD slot for storage expansion.

As for ports, the laptop comes with dual USB Type-C ports, a single USB 3.2 Type-A port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a MicroSD slot, and a nano-SIM slot – bringing LTE connectivity to the device. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6. The offering houses with a 720p webcam at the front with dual array mics. The battery is rated at 54Wh and can be topped up with a 65W charger. Other features include Dolby Atmos audio and an optional fingerprint sensor on the power key. Color options include Mystic Blue and Mystic Silver.

The more interesting of the two is the Galaxy Book Odyssey, an offering that the company says is aimed at gamers. The device can be had with powerful 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake H-series Core i5 and Core i7 processors, paired with up to an Nvidia RTX 3050Ti Max-Q – a GPU that has not been officially announced yet. The display is a 15.6-inch FullHD TFT LCD panel, though, there is no information on display refresh rates. The laptop can be maxed out with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, upgradable to 2TB via the additional slot.

The laptop houses a long list of ports that include two USB Type-C, three USB 3.2 Type-A, a full-size HDMI, an RJ45 ethernet jack for gigabit ethernet, a MicroSD card slot, and a 3.5mm audio jack. At the top of the display sits a 720p webcam with dual array mics. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. There is no LTE option for the Book Odyssey.

The device draws power from an 83Wh battery that can be charged using the in-box 135W USB Type-C adapter. The power key houses a fingerprint sensor. The device can be had with Windows 10 Home or Pro SKUs. The Galaxy Book Odyssey can be had only in one color – Mystic Black.

Both the devices also feature the unique software features announced today such as support for the second screen feature, easy Bluetooth pairing with Galaxy Buds devices, and the Galaxy Book SmartSwitch app to help users transfer data and apps from their old Windows PCs to Samsung’s newest offerings.

The Galaxy Book will go on sale starting May 14 - along with the Galaxy Book Pro series - for a starting price of $549, while the Galaxy Book Odyssey will start at $1,399 and will be available in August.
