It"s no secret that Samsung is expected to announce its upcoming Galaxy Note20 smartphone sometime in August, as it usually does with the Note series, alongside a Galaxy Z Fold 2 and a 5G-variant of the Galaxy Z Flip. Previous reports have suggested the devices might be announced at an Unpacked event on August 5, and a new report from Korean outlet ETnews (via MSPowerUser) seems to confirm that will be the case, at least for the Galaxy Note20.
Aside from the announcement date, the report also suggests a release on August 21 for the Galaxy Note20, which is just a day off from the previously-rumored date of August 20. It"s worth noting that this release date is for South Korea, though, so it"s still possible it will be available slightly earlier in other markets. The report also notes that, in the Korean market, only 5G models will be available. However, the report makes no mention of the other two phones Samsung is expected to announce at the event.
But Samsung isn"t the only one going with 5G only. According to the report, Apple"s new iPhone models will only launch in 5G variants in South Korea. The report mentions some information we"ve heard before, such as the existence of two different screen sizes, each with two models - one non-Pro and one Pro. In other markets around the world, Apple will sell LTE variants of the iPhone 12, but that won"t be the case in South Korea. Additionally, the report points to an October launch for the Apple phones.
Aside from shining light on the release dates for the new smartphones, the report makes it apparent that 5G adoption in South Korea is fairly widespread, which isn"t the case in many other parts of the world.
