Industry sources say that the Samsung Galaxy Note9 will come with in-display fingerprint scanning, according to the Korea Herald. By moving the fingerprint scanner from the back of the device to the screen, it will allow the Korean firm to include bigger batteries.
An industry source is quoted as saying:
“Samsung Display has prepared three or four solutions for Samsung Electronics to embed the fingerprint sensor inside of the main display, and both are seriously considering one of the solutions.
The delay in deciding on the final concept for the Note9 is due to the work in adopting the in-display fingerprint sensor. A final decision on adoption of the technology will be made by this month.”
Another source told the Korea Herald that the company has enough time to incorporate the new display into the device which is to expected launch in August, later this year.
The claim that the Samsung Galaxy Note9 will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner is not a new one. In fact, Neowin reported in October that the Note9 would likely get an in-display fingerprint sensor, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities.
