At its Unpacked 2020 event earlier today, Samsung announced the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip. Amidst all that product unveiling, the company also announced a $150 price cut for the Galaxy S10 series. Additionally, Samsung also plans on bringing some Galaxy S20 features to the Galaxy S10 via a future software update.
The Galaxy S10 series is now cheaper by $150 across the board. This means the Galaxy S10e which carried a $749 price tag at launch can now be purchased for $599. Similarly, the $899 Galaxy S10 will now cost $749. Lastly, the Galaxy S10 Plus which was priced at $999 when it first launched has now been discounted to $849.
This is the first time that Samsung has officially announced a price cut on its previous generation flagship after announcing its successor. Previously, the company used to silently reduce the prices of its older flagship smartphones in the market.
The announcement and the price cuts make it clear that the Galaxy S10 lineup is going to co-exist alongside the Galaxy S20 series. This makes sense since the Galaxy S20 lineup is extremely expensive and starts at $999 -- the same price point at which one could buy the best Galaxy S10 variant last year. Despite its age, the Galaxy S10 is still an impressive smartphone that"s well worth the price.
Do note that the Galaxy S10 lineup is frequently discounted by Amazon and other retailers by $200 or more. So, if you are really interested in buying the Galaxy S10, you should wait for such deals instead of simply buying the device at its new revised price.
Samsung also intends on bringing some Galaxy S20 features to the Galaxy S10. However, the company did not specify which features it will port to its 2019 flagship. Any new Galaxy S20 feature that relies on the upgraded hardware will not be making its way to the S10 due to hardware limitations.
