In the last couple of months, there have been rumors that Samsung will release three variants of its anticipated Galaxy S7 smartphone of which two will contain Samsung"s own Exynos chipset, with the remaining variant coming with a Snapdragon 820 SoC.
Benchmark results for one Exynos variant, later to be identified as the Exynos 8890, were leaked back in October, posting admirable single and multi-core results of 2,294 and 6,908 points respectively. Now, benchmark results for the alleged Snapdragon variant have leaked on Weibo allowing for some initial comparison.
According to the above post on Weibo, the supposed Snapdragon variant of Samsung Galaxy S7 managed single and multi-core results of 2,456 and 5,423 points respectively. As such, the Snapdragon has a slight edge in the single threaded synthetic tests but is seemingly left in the dust by the Exynos 8890 Galaxy S7 using all of its cores.
Of course, synthetic benchmark results should be taken with a grain of salt as an increase in raw performance may not translate into major improvements to perceived speed in the ultimate user experience.
It is rumored that the customized Snapdragon version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be released in the USA and China while the Exynos 8890 model will supposedly be destined for Korea, Japan and Europe. The third variant, sporting the Exynos 7422 chipset, originally meant to debut in the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, will apparently make its appearance in India.
