After several months of leaks, Samsung finally officially debuted its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets towards the end of March. Immediately after, carriers started taking pre-orders for the device. While there was an early word that the handsets were outpacing their predecessors, the firm has now been able to confirm that they are having their best handset launch to date with the Galaxy S8 and S8+.
Samsung Electronics America president and Chief Operating Officer, Tim Baxter, said:
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are a result of that recommitment and the market has responded – with a more than 30 percent year-over-year growth in pre-orders versus the record pre-orders we had with Galaxy S7, making it our best ever.
Many wondered prior to the release of the latest Galaxy, whether Samsung would be able to maintain its dominance. This is the first flagship handset to release since last year"s Galaxy Note7, which had to be recalled and discontinued, due to battery problems which made it quite flamable. Since then, Samsung has publicly addressed the issue, and even introduced new safeguards to prevent the issue from ever happening again. Regardless, it looks like that is a thing of the past, and the masses have spoken - Samsung seems to be back in the consumer"s good graces.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are now available from various carriers and retailers in the United States and will be available in the UK starting on April 28.
