Technological mobility has become a staple of our everyday lives, with social networking, apps, media, and more, all available at the tips of our fingers and thumbs in one handy smartphone package.
We reported on the IDC’s smartphone shipment figures in December, with slower growth predicted at just 9.8% for 2015. And just last week it confirmed the shipments for 2015 reached double digits (just) with a 10.1% growth.
While Samsung sit majestically atop the charts, they’re facing strong competition from two major smartphone manufacturers from China, in Huawei and Xiaomi. And because of this, Samsung has dropped out of the top five smartphone vendor list in China, with the competition affecting Samsung’s low-end and mid-range device sales.
The data, provided by Strategy Analytics, show in Q4 of 2015, Huawei topped the chart with 15.2% market share. This was followed closely by Xiaomi with 14.8%, with Apple rounding off the top three with a healthy 13.1%. Vivo and OPPO round out the top five with 10.0% and 9.2% respectively.
It’s no secret China is becoming a massive exporter, not just for technology, being able to provide premium devices minus premium costs – see our review of the Huawei Honor 6 Plus as evidence. But now, with Samsung dropping out of the list of top five smartphone vendors in China, down from fourth in August 2015, it’s anyone’s guess how it will respond.
