Samsung is working on enabling wireless DeX connections

Samsung has been making continuous improvements to DeX, which allows you to use its flagships smartphones - and, more recently, tablets - as a desktop computer. The feature debuted with the Galaxy S8 and the DeX Station, and since then Samsung has attempted to simplify the connection experience - first with the DeX Pad so users could use their phone as a trackpad, and then by enabling DeX to work over a single USB Type-C to HDMI cable.

However, fans of Microsoft"s Continuum, the Windows 10 Mobile feature that worked very similarly to DeX, will remember that it was possible to access the experience through a wireless connection as well. Despite Samsung"s efforts over the past two years, DeX still lacks that capability, but that could be set to change soon.

As spotted by PiunikaWeb, a member of Samsung"s community forums questioned the smartphone maker about the possibility of DeX going wireless and, earlier this week, a company employee actually answered the question. Though there isn"t yet a date where we can expect that feature to be enabled, the post does state that Samsung is actively working on enabling wireless connections for DeX, though it will require "a few improvements".

While the concept of using a mobile phone as a computer certainly seems interesting and could, eventually, be the future, neither Microsoft"s or Samsung"s implementation has been tremendously successful in today"s market. Wireless connections would make the experience more accessible, but it still doesn"t quite match the full power of a desktop, and thus it may not convince customers just yet.
