Samsung Keyboard app adds floating mode in newly leaked Android Pie beta build

Navigating the huge screen real estate of modern handsets using a single hand could prove unwieldy for many users. That is particularly more pronounced when composing a message using a device"s digital keyboard that occupies a screen"s entire width. But a new Android Pie beta build for the Samsung Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy S9 might provide some sort of relief.

The latest build, first spotted by XDA Developers, includes an update that adds a floating mode to the built-in Samsung Keyboard app of the company"s 2018 flagship devices. This feature is especially conducive to the one-handed use of mobile devices with big screens as it provides an option for dragging a pop-up keyboard around the display at any given circumstance.

It remains unclear when the floating mode will be available widely, but Samsung"s decision to add that feature to its native keyboard app is not at all surprising. For one, and as XDA noted, the option was available on the Galaxy S5 announced in February 2014. Another reason this option doesn"t come as a surprise is that it"s only a logical improvement to the digital keyboard of Samsung"s mammoth devices in the name of single-hand usability.
