Samsung is yet to launch a smartphone with its Tizen operating system, and the latest buzz is that the company might finally launch a low end device in India, in the coming weeks.
According to a South Korean newspaper, Samsung is ready to launch a smartphone allegedly known as the Z1, at a press event in India on December 10. The device is expected to retail under $100 and will go head to head against the likes of Moto E and the Lumia 520.
Back in June, Samsung unveiled the Samsung Z, a mid-range smartphone based on Tizen, whose general availability was delayed indefinitely due to lack of support from app developers. Apart from this smartphone, the Tizen OS lives inside the Gear range of smartwatches.
With the Z1, Samsung will be competing directly with low-end Android and Windows Phone smartphones in India. Unsurprisingly, the alleged hardware specifications are also similar to those seen on these competitors, which include a 4-inch WVGA screen, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera, 3G, Wi-Fi and dual-sim support.
For an unestablished OS, it would be better if Samsung could price the device much cheaper as it doesn"t seem to offer anything new while having an OS with an even lesser app support.
