After several weeks of delays, Microsoft has resumed updating the Omnia 7. This news follows on the heels that Samsung has released a support tool to correct an issue which was causing the phone to continuously reboot when installing the 7392 update, as we had reported on in late April, stalling the NoDo update rollout to the Omnia 7.
According to Eric Hautala of Microsoft"s Customer Experience Engineering team, the updates have resumed in a phased deployment,
"Go to the Zune software and manually check for an update. If you don’t see one today, look again next Tuesday when we plan to deliver updates to additional Omnia 7 customers. Operators being targeted in later phases include Deutsche Telekom, Orange, and SFR."
The article continues on to mention that those users that had installed the March 7390 update (and are experiencing update issues) should visit this Microsoft support article, which contains a link to the Samsung support tool. Please note that this tool only runs within Windows, and is not available for other platforms at this time.
After the tool completes, just fire the Zune software back up, and check for updates. If the update is available for your carrier, the phone will update to 7.0.7392.
If your device already has the NoDo update, 7392 will be available through the Zune software. Unfortunately, owners of the Focus (a variant of the Omnia 7, according to Eric) on AT&T that haven"t received the above updates are going to have to continue to wait in limbo, as Microsoft is still tracking down the issue with Samsung and AT&T.
