Samsung is reportedly readying at least four devices with foldable screens for launch next year, according to a new report from a South Korean publication. The firm is supposedly planning to introduce two new models in the Z Fold and Z Flip families of devices each, with them possibly being offered with different internal specs at different price points.
The report adds that the company aims to start mass-producing some of these offerings from August 2021, adding that the firm plans to diversify its foldable smartphone offerings owing to the growth potential and increasing adoption of new form factors, even during the pandemic. Earlier reporting suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip2 is slated for a Q1 2021 launch. This report also provides credence to earlier rumors about Samsung working on a Lite version of the original Galaxy Fold, which is said to cost less than the current foldable phone offerings from the company.
Additionally, the publication corroborates earlier rumors about the South Korean giant’s plans to consolidate the Note and S series line of devices. The upcoming Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to bring support for the S Pen – a Note series exclusive – signaling the possible demise of the Note lineup. However, the report notes that the Note line is expected to be discontinued “eventually” and does not offer any information about whether there will be a Note branded flagship next year.
Lastly, Samsung is not expected to debut any new form factors next year, says the report. The firm’s rumored rollable display-sporting device is supposedly not expected next year, as the company is focusing on expanding the reach of its current crop of folding phones.
It will be interesting to see what new devices the company brings to the market next year and if the Korean firm indeed does consolidate its traditional flagship smartphone models into one.
