A new report from Samsung"s home country has claimed that the company might be interested in partnering with Microsoft for the development of HoloLens.
Earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled HoloLens, a mixed-reality headset running on Windows Holographic to enable new experiences combining augmented and virtual reality with natural user interfaces. The company once again showed off the progress it had made in the development of HoloLens at the recently concluded BUILD conference and seems to have got the attention of Samsung.
According to a report from Korea Times, Samsung is looking to collaborate with Microsoft to make a definitive standards-oriented product, although the company already has its ongoing own virtual reality development. The report mentions that Samsung seeks to utilize Microsoft"s technology to build wearables that could could be used in areas such as medicine and healthcare which can be further empowered with the help of 3D printing and rendering.
Samsung has already partnered with Oculus for the development of the Gear VR headset, however, the device is yet to be released to the public. A partnership with Samsung could help Microsoft in getting the HoloLens devices out to the masses quickly and maybe for cheap(er) as well. Currently, there is no word from both the companies regarding any partnership but we will see how this unfolds.
