Not too long ago, Samsung teased its first circular smartwatch, the Gear A, which was internally named "Project Orbis." After releasing the watch"s SDK to developers, more information regarding the upcoming watch was revealed, including a rotatable bezel that can be used to navigate its screen.
The said Gear A watch was touted for a September release, during this year"s IFA event in Berlin, alongside the Galaxy Note 5. However, recent news refute this, as it is rumored that this latest Note device will be launched during the company"s Unpacked event, which will be held this August 13. With this, it is rumored that the Gear A will also be launched at the same event.
Considering all the confusion, Samsung, according to a report from Digital Trends, has not yet fully decided when to release the Gear A smartwatch. Furthermore, it is possible the company may hold back on launching the wearable to the public on the September IFA program, which is the original expected release time.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear A has the following specifications, according to a recent leak:
- 1.65-inch Super AMOLED display (360 x 360) resolution
- Exynos 3472 dual-core processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz
- Mali-400 MP4 GPU, clocked at 450 MHz
- 768 MB of RAM
- 4 GB internal storage
- 250 mAh battery
The watch will also come with a couple of sensors, like a heart rate monitor, fitness tracker, gyrosensor, and a magnetic sensor, among others.
It is also speculated that the upcoming watch will support Samsung"s mobile payment system, in line with the company"s acquisition of LoopPay back in February.
